Description

The two artists Heide and Makis Efthymios Warlamis founded the International Design Center I.DE.A in 1992 and the non-profit Waldviertel Art Museum in Schrems in 2009. The sculptor and wife of Makis Warlamis has been running these two institutions since his death in 2016. The unmistakable Waldviertel Art Museum, in the north of Austria, invites you to discover your own creativity on a total area of 12,000 m² in the midst of the beautiful Waldviertel natural landscape. New exhibitions every year, the large sculpture park, guided tours, the gallery, ceramics and creative workshops for children, young people and adults, as well as the museum café and the popular IDEA design store make a visit to the art museum a varied experience for the whole family.

THE SCULPTURE PARK

The unique Sculpture Adventure Park is located around the Waldviertel Art Museum. An extensive park landscape with extraordinary sculptures, mysterious places, the "open-air space theater", the "Marien-Kapelle" and the "Himmelssäulen".
A walk through this special park gives you time to relax, recharge your batteries and enjoy the balance between nature and art. This is also reflected in the events for children and adults. Join us on a journey of discovery into the fascinating world of art, creativity and imagination at the Waldviertel Art Museum.

ANNUAL EXHIBITION

MAGIC OF BEAUTY | Mozart - Warlamis
The 2026 exhibition year is dedicated to the universe of W. A. Mozart, which the universal artist and museum founder Makis Warlamis transformed into an impressive world of images around 20 years ago. According to a novella by Eduard Mörike, Mozart stopped off in Schrems on his journey to Prague in 1787. And so Mozart returns to Schrems on the 270th anniversary of his birth. An unforgettable experience!

The exhibition of large-format works, in combination with sound impressions, video, installations and dance, allows visitors to immerse themselves in painting and music and experience the interaction between the two worlds. An ideal combination to invite people of all ages into the world of art, accompanied by workshops for young and old.

Numerous events complement and deepen the exhibition experience, both locally and internationally, and this flair of the big world runs through all areas of the 12,000 m² site.

THE GALLERY

The gallery in the art museum presents a selection of works by national and international artists as well as themed and project exhibitions throughout the year. The gallery's exhibition activities support the museum's aim of making modern art accessible to a broad public and making it easier to collect art - with original works and prints at moderate prices. The promotion of children and young people and the development of their creative potential is one of the museum's special tasks. The gallery offers opportunities to awaken the joy of creative activity at an early age, for example with presentations of project work.

CREATIVE PROGRAM AND EVENTS

In addition to the annual exhibitions, we offer a varied program for a wide range of age groups.
From guided tours and events to our popular creative workshops for young and old.
